do nosso tempo;
### Abstract
Student’s ideas about Portuguese Expansion: a study in 8th grade
This qualitative study is included in Historic Education and sought to
examine the 8th grade students’ answers about their ideas of what was Portuguese
expansion of the 15th and 16th centuries.
The workshop kind of class allowed the student pairs to develop a
confrontation between their tacit ideas and those resulting from the reading and
the analysis of diverse historical sources.
The teaching of history, as a profession and mission, can contribute to the
development of historical consciousness. When creating a correlation between the
daily lives of the past and present, allows understanding why it is important to
learn history.
Furthermore the use of metacognitive practice that we adopted for the
historical understanding can assist students in solving problematic situations in
future, as active citizens, and facing the increasingly demanding challenges of our
societies. |
