Abstract: | Objetivo.
Objective. The main purpose of the present study was to determine whether there is a relationship between motor proficiency and temperament of preschool children.
Method. A total of 96 children (46 – 71 months) participated in this study. Motor proficiency was obtained from Movement Assessment Battery for Children, second edition (M-ABC-2) (Henderson & Sugden, 2007) and Temperament was obtained through the Portuguese version of Children Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ) (Lopes, 2011).
Results. In what concerns to CBQ there were no significant differences between genders. In what concerns to M-ABC-2, only Eye-Hand Coordination performances were significantly different between genders. There were few and low associations between motor proficiency and temperament variables.
Conclusions. There were few associations between motor proficiency and temperament. The high-pleasure intensity scale stabds out because of its correlation with four items of the M-Abc-2 and the inhibitory control scape, which has been associated with better performances in the trail and throwing a bag of beans tasks. The temperamental trait and motor proficiency seem to be relatively similar between boys and girls. Future studies are needed to confirm associations between variables. |
