Abstract: Decision-making in multi-objective problems is a complex problem with
several approaches existing in the literature. Many such approaches typically com bine simulation and optimization methods to achieve a robust tool capable of provid ing useful information to decision-makers. While simulation helps decision-makers
to test alternative scenarios and allows uncertainty to be considered, optimization
enables them to find the best alternatives for specific conditions. This paper pro poses an alternative approach consisting of three levels, wherein we use simulation
to model complex scenarios, simulation-optimization to identify the scenarios of the
Pareto-front, and Data Envelopment Analysis to identify the most efficient solutions,
including those not belonging to the Pareto-front, thereby exploiting the benefits of
efficiency analysis and simulation-optimization. This can be useful when decision makers decide to consider scenarios that, while not optimum, are efficient for their
decision-making profile. To test our approach, we applied it to a supply chain design
problem. Our results show how our approach can be used to analyze a given system
from three different perspectives and that some of the solutions, while not optimum,
are efficient. In traditional approaches, such scenarios could be overlooked, despite
their efficiency for specific decision-making profiles2024-01-01T00:00:00ZIntrodução

Abstract: The literature shows that despite the strength of the principles shared around the importance of the strategic
participation of students in the good management of higher education institutions, the practice is
far below the desired standards. This chapter explores the power of comprehensive student participation
plans to improve higher education models by fostering the development of a broader and multidimensional
culture of student participation. Empirical contribution draws on the recent and innovative experience
developed at the University of Évora, a public university in Portugal, a south European country. At the
end, it is expected that the lessons learned from this experience might help worldwide higher education
systems and institutions, administrators, faculty, and trustees to understand how specific countries structure
their higher education systems and how they are dealing with global critical issues, thus increasing
awareness and capacity to develop solutions addressing identified challenges.2023-01-01T00:00:00ZCooperation Between Higher Education Institutions and Local Stakeholders: Innovative Pedagogical Methods as a Tool to Strengthen Regional Development

Abstract: Cooperation between HEIs and other stakeholders is one of the ways to promote local development due to the possibility of introducing innovative knowledge in the many activities and thus improving the competitiveness of companies and the institutions' performance. New educational perspectives in higher education using innovative pedagogical methods are required to enable collaborative processes and partnerships between HEIs and stakeholders that contribute to local development. The chapter intends to analyse some of the innovative pedagogical methods that can be used to promote regional and local development. The selected cases study is two. One will address an example of designing a garden for an urban parish in the city of Évora (Portugal). This project was developed by students of the Landscape Architecture graduation of the University of Évora. The second was developed by students of the masters in agribusiness and in management of the University of Évora, and the intervention focus was the organic cocoa producers in the São Tomé and Principe.2023-01-01T00:00:00Z
