Title: Entre a Saúde e a Economia em Contexto Epidémico: Onde pára a Economia da Saúde?
AND SOCIAL MOBILITY – HOW CONTEXT SHAPES AMBITION

Abstract: Education is generally considered a valuable tool to improve individual socioeconomic
status. In European peripheral countries, up to the late 1970s, only
a small elite had access to higher education and such privilege guaranteed a
comfortable socio-economic position, not only via the job market, but also by
allowing the sustainability of pre-existing social links. From then on,
democratization of access to higher education should have prompted a
decrease in social and economic inequalities within and across countries.
However, current data still reflects that, despite gained access to social
uplifting tools, individuals from less favoured backgrounds appear to not have
been able to close the various gaps separating them from the more
privileged ones. In this chapter we analyse recent data to characterize higher
education attendance in Portugal, highlighting some factors that may still
block the socio-economic improvement of the less favoured students and
suggesting policy measures to overcome them.2018-11-01T00:00:00ZEnsino Superior e Mobilidade Internacional: Fatores Determinantes da Escolha e Satisfação dos Estudantes

///// UNESCO defends internationalization as a solidary way of integrating countries in a global context. A stronger relation and confidence between countries is considered a fundamental factor for the improvement of global understanding and for the construction of a society more tolerant, integrative and committed to human rights and differences between cultures. In this perspective, the mobility of higher education students is fundamental. The internationalization of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) has assumed an increasing strategic importance, both by the existing competition and by the need to adjust students' skills to an increasingly dynamic and global context.
The objectives of this communication are: a) identify the determinants of students' choices and ii) evaluate their levels of satisfaction with the choice made. For this, a broad literature review will be carried out to find the factors for choosing an HEI as well as to assess students' satisfaction in the context of international mobility.2017-12-01T00:00:00ZDoes final demand for energy in Portugal exhibit long memory

Title: Does final demand for energy in Portugal exhibit long memory
Authors: Belbute
Abstract: In this paper, we measure the degree of fractional integration in final energy demand in Portugal using an ARFIMA model with and without adjustments for seasonality. We consider aggregate energy demand as well as final demand for petroleum, electricity, coal, and natural gas. Our findings suggest the presence of long memory in all of the energy demand variables, that the series are stationary, although the mean reversion process will be slower than in the typical short run processes. These results have important implications for the design of energy policies. The effects of temporary policy shocks on final energy demand will tend to disappear slowly. This means that even transitory shocks have long lasting effects. Given the temporary nature of these effects, however, permanent effects require permanent policies. This is unlike what would be suggested by the more standard but much more limited unit root approach, which would incorrectly indicate that even transitory policies would have permanent effects.2015-06-30T23:00:00Z
