Authors: Cabeça, Paulo Tiago Santos Figueira Rocha
autor pretendia compreender e questionou sempre.
The "Craft" as a creative process: the example of Barrística. Contribution to a reflection
on creativity - Abstract: As a self-taught ceramist and caricaturist for almost three decades, beginning in the potteries
of S. Pedro do Corval, Reguengos de Monsaraz, the artistic work of the author of
this thesis, always of unique piece, is considered very distinctive and immediately recognizable.
This characteristic, in a way, reveals a singular creativity that, even when representing
the most common themes of crafts and folk art, the author would represent in a way different
from his peers. Now, it is precisely this personal creativity and its eventual mechanisms
that the author sought to understand and always questioned. How do they arise?
How do they manifest themselves? What is at their origin? Is it the same for other artists?
Continuing the previous research work in Cabeça (2018) on the distinction between crafts
and figurative art in clay, the author now attempts to deepen these concepts by proposing
an interpretation for the phenomenon of creativity in popular figurative clay art.
We will see in this thesis how clay is an extraordinary means of expression. We will also
see how creativity is a phenomenon that leads us to express ourselves. But creativity is
not a characteristic only of human beings. Increasingly, recent studies confirm that creativity
is in fact a powerful cerebellar tool for adaptation and survival in many animal
species, which use it to find solutions to fundamental existential problems. Humans are
one of the few species, apparently, that also use it to express themselves symbolically or,
as we can say in another way: that use creativity to create art. In this thesis, which has the History of Art as its backbone, we resort to trans disciplinarity
to try to find patterns of human behaviour that may show us that, despite disparate chronologies
and cultural contexts, apparently the creative responses of art, in clay, by human
beings, are identical, which may demonstrate a possible biological genesis of clay art. Put
another way: that art may, in fact, have a biological origin and not just a cultural one.

Title: Envelhecimento Ativo e Saudável: Fatores e Expetativas em Adultos de Meia-Idade no Baixo Alentejo
Authors: Santos, Eunice Maria Costa Pereira dos
Abstract: Introdução.
Os quatro estudos convergem ao demonstrar que o EAS, na meia-idade, no Baixo Alentejo é condicionado por determinantes socioeconómicos e por expetativas individuais, exigindo intervenções multidimensionais integradas em três eixos complementares (capacitação individual, suporte relacional e intervenção comunitária), ancorados nos Cuidados de Saúde Primários; Active and Healthy Ageing: Factors and Expectations in Middle-Aged Adults in Baixo Alentejo - Abstract: Introduction: In areas such as Baixo Alentejo, which are characterised by significant ageing and geographical dispersion, middle age is seen as the ideal time to encourage active and healthy ageing (AHA). However, the structural factors and individual expectations surrounding ageing in middle age remain insufficiently explored. This thesis aims to address these gaps by generating context-specific scientific knowledge to inform the design of AHA interventions for this age group.
Objectives. Objectives: (i) To identify and synthesise scientific evidence on interventions that promote healthy lifestyles for middle-aged adults and lead to health gains (Study 1); (ii) To characterise the physical, mental and social well-being of middle-aged adults (55–64 years old) in Baixo Alentejo (Study 2); (iii) To analyse the associations between physical, mental and social well-being and sociodemographic variables among middle-aged adults (55–64 years old) in Baixo Alentejo (Study 2); (iv) To identify the expectations and perceptions of middle-aged adults in Baixo Alentejo regarding their ageing process, with a focus on the physical, mental and social dimensions (Study 3); (v) To identify and prioritise a set of interventions to promote AHA for middle-aged adults (55–64 years old) registered with health centres in Baixo Alentejo (Study 4).
Methods. A mixed-methods approach was developed and implemented through four sequential, interconnected studies. Study 1 was a systematic literature review of health promotion interventions in middle age. Study 2: a quantitative, analytical, cross-sectional study using proportional stratified random sampling. Study 3: A qualitative study using interviews to explore expectations and perceptions of AHA. Study 4 involved the prioritisation of interventions using the Nominal Group Technique and an APEASE assessment (Acceptability, Practicability, Effectiveness/cost-effectiveness, Affordability and Safety/Equity).
Results. Of the systematic interventions, those with multidimensional components, including educational, motivational and technological support, promoted gains in well-being and health behaviours. The mean score for middle-aged adults on the WHODAS 2.0 PT-12 was 18.3 ± 7.2 (range 12–60), with a predominance of no depressive symptoms on the PHQ-9 (mean 4.6 ± 5.1; range 0–27). The average satisfaction with social support score was 57.9 ± 10.6 (range 15–75), and the average life satisfaction score was 7.6 ± 2.0 (range 0–10). Significant associations were found between socioeconomic status, gender, professional situation, functional disability, depressive symptoms and satisfaction with social support. Participants' expectations focused on preserving autonomy, security, emotional stability, cognitive abilities, spirituality, continuity of relationships, and community participation. Five interventions were prioritised: nursing and multidisciplinary consultations in primary healthcare; flexible working arrangements to encourage healthy practices; support groups; and the use of technology to facilitate contact with healthcare professionals.
Conclusions. The four studies converge in demonstrating that active and healthy ageing in middle age in Baixo Alentejo is influenced by socio-economic factors and personal aspirations. This requires a multidimensional approach, integrated into three complementary areas: individual empowerment, social support, and community intervention. This approach must be anchored in primary healthcare.

Authors: Silva, Jacqueline Souza
Abstract: Esta tese analisa a trajetória do Instituto de Antropologia da Universidade do Rio Grande
do Norte, posteriormente Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), desde
universitários no Brasil; - FROM THE INSTITUTE OF ANTHROPOLOGY TO THE CÂMARA CASCUDO MUSEUM:
SCIENTIFIC TRAJECTORIES IN RIO GRANDE DO NORTE, BRAZIL (1950-2010)

ABSTRACT:
This thesis examines the trajectory of the Institute of Anthropology of the University of
Rio Grande do Norte, later the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), from
the circumstances preceding its establishment in 1960 to its transformation into the
Câmara Cascudo Museum (MCC), formally enacted in 1973, and the institutional
configurations it assumed until 2010. Drawing on institutional sources, publications,
newspapers, photographs, and material evidence, the study reconstructs the formation
of the Institute, its scientific activities, and the changes that accompanied the creation
of the Museum. The research shows that the IA developed as a multidisciplinary scientific
institution in which knowledge production was closely connected to the training of
researchers, collective work, the formation of collections, and cooperation with other
institutions. The creation of the MCC did not constitute a mere change of name, the
abandonment of research, or the unaltered continuation of the Institute. The new
configuration changed the institution’s administrative position, redefined some of its
functions, and gave greater prominence to its museological responsibilities, while
preserving, to varying degrees, professionals, practices, infrastructure, collections, and
previously established networks. This combination of change and continuity constituted
an institutional reconfiguration whose effects extended over the following decades. By
relating the scientific trajectory of the IA to transformations within the University and to
the processes of musealisation developed at the MCC, the thesis broadens knowledge of
university-based science and university museums in Brazil.
