Abstract: | Aging is a phase of human development where there are gains and losses, but where, as a rule, losses outweigh the
gains. Hearing impairment is a commonly aging-related loss. It is characterized by a decrease or failure of the hearing
ability, in which the communication is made verbal or non-verbal.
Communication is of extreme importance for any activity between the health professional and the elderly since it is
through it that cognitive stimulation can be done, which is an essential factor for the acceptance of the individual and
his abilities. For this reason, health professionals who want to invest in the quality of their service must know some
strategies to communicate with this population. It is essential to optimize the communication amidst the health
professional and the elderly, since the difficulties in communicating have many socioemotional implications, including
the acceleration of the aging process. Finally, we call for the investigation of hearing impairment to allow psychomotor
intervention with this population to be more efficient. |
