Abstract: The allelopathic potential of weeds and some vegetable species is reviewed. The possibilities of applying to vegetable crops allelopathic effetcs to improve weeds suppression, such as the use of allelopathic rotational crops or companion plants and the decay of some crop residues are referred. Other weed control approaches are discussed, as the screen for allelopathic types in germoplasm collections of crops and the discovery of novel natural herbicides or precursors.
