| Abstract: | The aim of this article is to put in context the courtly rebellion against Philip V in 1705, the so-called Banquillo affair. I argue that this episode belongs to a tradition of aristocratic rebellion against royal tyranny that can be traced to at least the beginning of the 17th century. |
