Abstract: Sexuality is an important issue in the university careers of nursing students to ensure that they provide comprehensive care. It is necessary according to the recommendation of the World
Health Organization. However, research reveals deficiencies and the need for further development.
The aim of the study is to describe the perspective of teachers and students on the content of sexuality
in nursing education. The project aims to analyze the attitudes and beliefs of the students about
the sexuality of their patients. Furthermore, the experience and sexual lives of the future nurses, as well the teaching of sexuality content in the curriculum, will be analyzed. As for the educators, their level of knowledge about sexuality and vision of sexuality education in undergraduate nursing
education will be analyzed. This study is an exploratory and descriptive study with a quantitative-
qualitative approach in a multi-center context. The sample is composed of students and professors
of nursing courses from five universities (Portugal, Spain, Italy and United States). Questionnaires
and semistructured interviews will be used for data collection. The results of the study will allow
the inclusion of sexual competence in the curriculum from the beginning in higher education. This article describes the research protocol.2021-02-04T00:00:00ZMeasuring Attitudes Towards Motorcycle Helmet Use in Laos

Abstract: This paper examines attitude towards use of motorcycle helmet in Laos. A quantitative approach using the survey questionnaire method was adopted to assess this attitude. A total of 257 university students in Vientiane, Laos was interviewed. Forward translation, backward translation, and cognitive debriefing were carried out. Factor analysis of the principal components was also performed. The four-factor solution was used to explain the 58.867% of total variance. The correlation between items showed values between .01 and .566. The total item correlation values were between .129 and .566. Cronbach alpha coefficient was .764 for overall scale and between .801 and .601 on the four factors. Spearman Brown prediction formula was used to test psychometric properties and reliability of the items. A total of 17 items were considered reliable, such as such as susceptibility, trafficability, safety and usability, in determining overall attitudes of Laotians in using motorcycle helmet. These can be used in future research.2020-03-31T23:00:00ZNeonatal sepsis in mother-child dyad of ethnic minority: a case study

Title: Neonatal sepsis in mother-child dyad of ethnic minority: a case study
Authors: Urbanovská, Nikola; Pedro, Cristina; Sim-Sim, Margarida
Abstract: Objective: This paper aimed to describe the nursing diagnoses and interventions in the mother-child dyad consistent with the neonatal sepsis situation by applying the NANDA-I taxonomy. Methods: This is a case study research, conducted with a newborn hospitalized at 72 hours of life in a neonatology service and with his mother who followed him up during hospitalization. Data collected in December 2017. Ethical principles have been observed. Results: The dyad lives in the social condition of an ethnic minority, drawing attention to fragile social contexts in the area of mother and child. Sociodemographic data show poor housing, family planning, prenatal surveillance and gender roles. The initial nursing assessment was based on seven diagnoses. In children: 1) ineffective breathing pattern (0032); 2) risk for unstable blood glucose level (00179); 3) neonatal jaundice (00194); 4) risk of poor fluid volume (00028). In mothers: 1) ineffective health control (00078); 2) interrupted breastfeeding (00105); 3) willingness for improved decision-making (00184). Expected outcomes and successful nursing interventions were defi ned. The dyad as discharged at ten days of hospitalization. Conclusion: Social inclusion and ethnic minority care programs may decrease maternal and child morbidity.2020-03-01T00:00:00ZNurses assistance. Narrative of women victims of domestic violence

Title: Nurses assistance. Narrative of women victims of domestic violence
Authors: Cristina, Irene; Risso, Sandra; Sim-Sim, Margarida
Editors: Lopes, Manuel
Abstract: Background: Violence is a problem which affects society, and individual and collective
health. Objective: To describe the victims’ experience on the nurses’ attendance in health units following an episode of violence. Method: Cross-sectional study with a qualitative approach, configuring an interpretative paradigm. Convenience sample of 27 women resident in a shelter-house. Age between 22-64 years (M=41.15; SD=11.7). The questionnaire collected demographic data, type of aggression and narrative on the nurses’ attendance on the health unit’s admission episode. The data was analysed using WebQDA software. The ethical procedures were complied. Results: The majority is of Portuguese nationality (n=21), cohabited with the aggressor (n=24). In 18 of the cases, the time between the admission in the health unit and the secure place ranged from 1 to 48 hours. All suffered psychological violence. In the narrative analysis, three major categories emerge: a) retelling the violence, b) deprivations in care and c) beneficence in care. In the first category the participants describe the victimization, in the second category they point the attendances’ frailties and in the third category the attendances’ favourable aspects. A fourth category emerges, resulting from the reflective attitude on the predecessors, denominated here by rebirth of losses and bereavements, on which some of the participants anticipate a positive future.
Conclusion: Although sexism is identified by some participants, overall, they are gratified
by nursing care.2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
