Authors: André, João; Serra, Isaura; Barreiros, Joana; Gemito, Laurência
Abstract: Objective: To characterize
knowledge and practices of formal caregivers
regarding the medication regimen of
elderly people, in a home context. Method:
Exploratory, descriptive study with a
quantitative approach. The target population
consisted of formal caregivers from
institutions providing Home Support Services
in a municipality in the southern region of
Portugal. The data collection instrument is a
self-designed questionnaire to characterize
caregivers and their perception of training
and practices, in a work context, regarding
medication management. To process the
data, Microsoft® software, Excel®, was used.
All ethical procedures were complied with in
accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki
on Ethics in Research Involving Human
Beings. Results: It was found that there were
some gaps in the knowledge and practices
carried out by formal caregivers regarding the
medication management of elderly people.
There was a need for in-service training
on the topic of medication management.
Conclusions: The lack of training in the area
of medication management for elderly people
may eventually compromise their safety, due
to bad practices and/or lack of knowledge.2024-03-21T00:00:00ZExploring Coaches' Cognitive Perception of Football Training Tasks: A Questionnaire-Based Study and Comparison with a Framework Tool for Assessing Cognitive Demands in Small-Sided GamesFigueira, BrunoExel, JulianaGonçalves, BrunoCoutinho, DiogoSampaio, Jaimehttp://hdl.handle.net/10174/365362024-03-21T17:24:51Z2024-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Exploring Coaches' Cognitive Perception of Football Training Tasks: A Questionnaire-Based Study and Comparison with a Framework Tool for Assessing Cognitive Demands in Small-Sided Games

Abstract: Cognitive function is crucial in competitive performance environments due to the type of tasks and workload involved. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate coaches’ cognitive perception of football training tasks, through the use of a questionnaire and compare the results with a framework tool to assess cognitive demands in small-sided games. A total of 57 football coaches (national and regional levels) filled out a questionnaire to rate the perceived cognitive demands of twelve different small-sidedgame situations. The answers were made by each coach from a set of alternatives supplied by the authors using a 10-point Likert use scale. The cognitive load during small-sided games was calculated using an equation that included the number of players involved in the task, the surface area occupied by eachplayer, and the duration of the exercise. The questionnaire results have shown that national-level coaches presented higher correlation results showing a high agreement between coaches' perception and the cognitive load results when compared to regional-level coaches. The relationship established between all variables showed that the complexity of tasks increases using formats with a larger number of players, small areas, and bigger duration drills. Thus, the cognitive load framework may be a useful and simple tool to coaches assess the cognitive demands during training sessions.2024-01-01T00:00:00ZNutritional counselling in adults promoting adherence to the Mediterranean diet as adjuvant in the treatment of major depressive disorder (INDEPT): a randomized open controlled trial study protocolSousa Santos, NunoFialho, MóniaMadeira, TeresaClara, CátiaVeiga, SofiaMartins, RaquelBarros, NeuzaSanots, GabrielaSanots, OsvaldoAlmeida, CarolinaGanança, LicíniaCampos, Rui CCamola, JoséPereira da Silva, AldaSucena Guarino, Maria PedroHeitor, Maria Joãohttp://hdl.handle.net/10174/365352024-03-21T17:24:18Z2023-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Nutritional counselling in adults promoting adherence to the Mediterranean diet as adjuvant in the treatment of major depressive disorder (INDEPT): a randomized open controlled trial study protocol

Abstract: Background Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Approximately one-third
of patients with MDD do not respond to treatment, and often exhibit elevated inflammation biomarkers, which are
associated with worse prognosis. Previous research has linked healthier dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean
Diet (MedDiet), with a lower risk of MDD and symptoms of depression, potentially due to their anti-inflammatory
properties. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a nutritional counselling intervention promoting
MedDiet to alleviate symptoms of depression in adults recently diagnosed with MDD and presenting with elevated
inflammation biomarkers.
Methods This study is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) that will recruit adults from outpatient clinics, between
the ages of 18 and 70 years who have been diagnosed with MDD and are currently receiving treatment with the
first prescribed antidepressant, and who exhibit elevated inflammation biomarkers (interleukin-6 and/or C-reactive
protein). The control group will receive treatment-as-usual (TAU) only. The primary outcome of the study will be
the change in symptoms of depression, as measured by the Beck Depression Inventory 2 (BDI-II), after 12 weeks of
intervention. Data analysis will follow an intention-to-treat approach. Secondary outcomes will include changes in
inflammation biomarkers, quality of life, adherence to the MedDiet, and cost-effectiveness of nutritional counselling.
All outcomes will be assessed at baseline, after the 12-week intervention, and at 6- and 12-months post-baseline.
Discussion This study will be the first RCT to evaluate the effect of a nutritional intervention with anti-inflammatory2023-01-01T00:00:00ZThe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Portuguese adults’ psychopathological symptoms: a cross-sectional studyCampos, Rui C.Holden, Ronald R.Martins, Luís C.Morujão, Inês S.Tomás, GabrielPereira, Alexandra M.http://hdl.handle.net/10174/365332024-03-21T17:22:19Z2022-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Portuguese adults’ psychopathological symptoms: a cross-sectional study

Abstract: BAC KGROUND: The impact of the pandemic on mental health has been demonstrated in several reports. The aim of
the present study was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on multiple dimensions of psychopathology in
Portuguese adults. We compare a pandemic sample assessed during the second lockdown in Portugal with a prepandemic
sample.
METH ODS: Participants provided socio-demographic and clinical information and responded to the Brief Symptom
Inventory.
RES ULTS : The pandemic group relative to the prepandemic group demonstrated significantly higher levels for BSI
scales of depression, anxiety, and phobic anxiety, and lower scores for paranoid ideation. At the level of the 53 BSI items,
significant difference between pandemic and prepandemic groups occurred for 20 of the items.
CONCLUSI ONS: Results describe the multidimensional influence of the pandemic on psychological functioning and are
relevant to guiding the implementation of intervention strategies.2022-01-01T00:00:00Z
